Be sure to install libav-tools package. Latest Ubuntu Versions >= 16.04 don't have that package anymore.

Install the dpkg manually, e.g:

wget https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/artful/amd64/libav-tools/7:3.3.4-2
dpkg -i libav-tools<tab>...deb 

apt-get install alsa-tools alsa-tools-gui alsamixergui patchage jackd2   jackd2-firewire qjackctl a2jmidid gmidimonitor
